Not A Reader

She's at it again. The maid that is.
Today she is more miserable than usual. She had to ring the bell twice this morning before anyone let her in. One of the down sides to living in a house full of people, we always assume the other is answering the telephone or door bell. In u huff she asked me if she could get her house keys back (I haven't gotten a chance to get my own set, so i've been using hers) because she had to wait outside for someone to open for her for a "LONG" time. My response was, "Sylvia you ran the bell twice, it wasn't that long, don't be dramatic". Well needless to say she spent the rest of the morning sighing every time she looked at me. But that's not the point. Its because of this that I ended up in my dads room to begin with, trying to stay out of her way while Harvey napped (thats if he was still napping...when she cleans is like a T-Rex in a china shop). To pass the time I decided to read this little book of memoirs my moms old work colleagues had made for us after her death...very thoughtful and I had never actually had a good read through it. It was always too much to handle. By the end of it I thought,"hell that was depressing" followed by "Lord I miss that women". But that also isn't the point. This got me onto the shelf next to where I was sitting...it is filled with folders and files with important papers and books, lots and lots of books. To say that my mother was a book worm would be a huge understatement. Most of them however were the detective kind. She had a thing for murder mysteries. Whether it was a fictional book, TV series or those reality investigation programs, it was all right up her alley. Anyway...there were to my surprise a few "non murder mystery" books, one of which caught my eye, it was called "the price of love" by Nikola something something. And I thought what the heck let me try this whole reading thing (I'm not a big reader - not to say I can't, I just don't enjoy it). Well...I got half way through it by the end of the evening, I could not put it down. It's her own life story about how she was abused throughout her life, specifically during her first marriage. Can I just say that this is why I do not read...I hardly slept a wink that night. When she was a child she dreaded going to school because of the sexual abuse she had experienced and so when she wakes up in the morning she is paralysed. Its almost like her mind couldn't handle what was happening to her and so something had to go. There was nothing physically wrong with her legs, her mind just shut it down. And as I lay in bed tossing and turning not able to get comfortable by feet felt cold and fuzzy, you know the kind of feeling you get before something goes numb. Like I said this is why I don't read. I even considered not finishing it, but I'm in the real meat of the story. Plus that wouldn't really be a good start to my "book reading" adventure. It might not be everyones cup of tea so I would not go so far as to recommend it, but hey maybe this is the beginning of becoming my own kind of book worm. With a whole shelf to tackle I have more than enough options at hand. To be continued...

Photo Shoot

A couple of months ago we finally decided to get some photos taken of our little family. The pics were taken by our brother Shannon and his girlfriend Taryn who have started a company called Humble Pie Photography (Look them up). Heres a few of the shots - they are to die (if I do say so myself;)

No Nap Thursday

How to turn a total headache afternoon around 101.
Sometimes giving in to the no napping is worth it. So we took some pics instead.
Being behind the camera is actually quite fun. Still lots to learn but I could get used to it. x

The humble Cheese Puff

Moms Recipe - Cheese Puffs
If there was ever a book study tea, this would be what my mom would make and take with. Needless to say I would always want to have at least one straight from the oven!
So unbelievable easy and quick to make.
These are a MUST try.

1 cup Flour
1 cup Grated Cheese
1 Cup Milk
1 tablespoon cooking Oil
2 heaped teaspoons Baking Powder
1 Egg
1/2 teaspoon Salt
Cayenne Pepper (that's it, no measurements or how to use it just "cayenne pepper")

Mix all together and bake on HIGH for 10min.

Weekend Away

Weekend away to Arniston.
Only one thing learnt... Harvey seriously dislikes the beach.
We will have to work on that.
Good memories.
